Privacy & Terms

The rules for using SboxCharts and what we do with your data. Independent project. Not affiliated with Facepunch Studios, Valve, or sbox.game.

Last updated: April 21, 2026

At a glance

  • Privacy-first analytics. We use Umami Cloud — no cookies, no fingerprinting, no cross-site tracking, no ad networks. You can opt out with a query param.
  • No tracking cookies. Preferences (currency, cached exchange rates) live in your browser's localStorage. Session cookies are only set if you sign in with Steam.
  • Steam sign-in is optional. If you sign in, we see your public Steam profile (SteamID, name, avatar, profile URL). We never see your Steam password.
  • Your data stays with us. We do not sell, rent, or share user data. You can request deletion at any time.
  • Not financial advice. Prices, charts, and portfolio values are informational. Virtual-item markets are volatile — trade at your own risk.
  • Independent project. SboxCharts is operated by Stony Softworks LLC. Not affiliated with Facepunch Studios, Valve, or sbox.game.

Privacy Policy

We collect the minimum data needed to make the site work. No ad trackers, no data brokers, nothing sold to third parties.

1. When you sign in with Steam

Sign-in uses Steam OpenID. Steam confirms your SteamID to us — we never see your Steam password. From your public Steam profile we store:

  • SteamID64 — unique account identifier
  • Display name — shown in your profile and, if public, on the leaderboard
  • Avatar URL — shown in your profile and, if public, on the leaderboard
  • Profile URL — link back to your Steam profile
  • Account created date — set at first login; used to show portfolio history from day one
  • Last login date — updated each sign-in; used to expire idle sessions and surface active collectors

2. Inventory data

When you load the inventory page, we query Steam's public inventory API using your SteamID. Only S&Box (app 590830) items are synced. Syncs happen on demand when you visit the page — we do not poll your inventory in the background.

  • Asset ID, Class ID, Instance ID — identify each specific item instance
  • Market hash name — so we can match the item to a market price
  • Quantity — for portfolio value
  • First seen date — when the item first appeared in your inventory on our side
  • Last seen date — last time we saw the item in a sync
  • Removed date — set when an item is no longer in your inventory; kept so historical portfolio value doesn't suddenly drop

Only public Steam inventories are accessible. If your inventory is private, Steam returns nothing and we store nothing.

3. Cost basis you enter

If you enter purchase prices against items in your inventory, we store them on our servers tied to your account: a unit price (or a list of purchase lots with quantity and unit price) and the currency you entered them in. This is used to show your cost basis and gain/loss on your portfolio. If your profile is set to public, cost-basis figures are visible to anyone who opens your inventory from the leaderboard or directly at /inventory/<your SteamID>. If your profile is private (the default), only you can see them. We do not share cost basis with any third party.

4. User settings

  • Public profile toggle — off by default. When on, your display name, avatar, and portfolio value appear on the public leaderboard. Anyone can open your inventory from the leaderboard (or directly at /inventory/<your SteamID>) and see your items, portfolio history, and any cost basis you've entered. Turn this off if you don't want that exposure.
  • Trade URL — optional. Required only if you post a trade offer. Stored on our servers so other users can contact you about your offers. It is not shown anywhere unless you attach it to an offer.
  • Currency preference — which currency (USD, EUR, GBP, etc.) to display prices in. Stored in your browser's localStorage so it persists on that device, and — if you're signed in — also saved to your account so it syncs across devices.

5. Trade offers

If you post a trade offer on /trade, we store: the items you have, the items you want, an optional description, the offer status (active / completed / cancelled), and the trade URL you attached. Active offers are visible to any visitor. You can edit or delete your offers from /trade/mine at any time. SboxCharts does not broker, escrow, or otherwise facilitate the trade itself — users contact each other via Steam.

6. Sentiment votes

On an item page, signed-in users can vote bullish or bearish. We store your vote tied to your account on a one-vote-per-item-per-day basis within a rolling 7-day window, and aggregate the counts publicly on the item page. We don't publish who voted which way.

7. Browser storage

We use your browser's localStorage for a few small, functional values. None of it is used for tracking.

  • sboxcharts-currency — your currency preference
  • sboxcharts-rates / sboxcharts-rates-ts — cached exchange rates so we don't re-fetch on every page load
  • sboxcharts-return-to — remembers where to send you after Steam sign-in; cleared immediately after
  • umami.disabled — your analytics opt-out flag

A session cookie is set only after you sign in with Steam. It maps to your account on our server and expires after a period of inactivity. No tracking or advertising cookies are set.

8. Analytics

We use Umami Cloud to count page views and visits. Umami does not set cookies, does not fingerprint devices, and does not track users across sites. Data we see is aggregated (page views, referrer, approximate country, browser family) and cannot be used to identify individuals.

You can disable analytics entirely by visiting any page with ?notrack appended to the URL (for example, sboxcharts.com/?notrack). This sets a local flag in your browser. Re-enable with ?track.

9. Third-party services

  • Steam (Valve) — sign-in, public profile lookups, public inventory lookups, Steam Community Market prices, and item images served from Steam's CDN.
  • sbox.game — public item metadata and retail prices for the S&Box in-game store.
  • YouTube — public RSS feeds for a hand-picked list of S&Box creators surfaced on the Community page. No user data is sent to YouTube from our side.
  • Exchange-rate provider — a public currency-conversion API. We request current USD-based rates and cache them. No user data is transmitted.
  • Cloudflare — sits in front of the site for DDoS protection and TLS. Cloudflare sees standard request metadata under its own privacy policy.
  • Umami Cloud — aggregate page-view analytics, as described above.

We do not sell, rent, share, or otherwise transfer your account data to third parties.

10. Caching

To keep the site fast and to stay within rate limits of the sources we pull from (Steam, sbox.game, YouTube, exchange rates), we cache data server-side for short periods. Caches are short-lived and expire automatically. Session data for signed-in users expires after a period of inactivity.

11. What we do NOT collect

  • No email address (unless you email us)
  • No password — Steam handles authentication
  • No IP addresses in our application database. Standard hosting / Cloudflare access logs may briefly contain IPs for security and abuse prevention, then roll off.
  • No tracking or advertising cookies
  • No data from Steam games other than S&Box
  • No Steam purchase history, payment info, or transaction data
  • No device fingerprinting or session recording

12. Data retention & deletion

  • Account data persists while your account exists
  • Inventory items you no longer own are soft-deleted (flagged with a removal date) so historical portfolio value stays intact
  • Server-side caches auto-expire
  • Sessions expire after a period of inactivity

To delete your account, export your data, or request correction of anything tied to your account, email nick@stonysoftworks.com. We respond within 30 days. On deletion, your account record, inventory rows, cost basis, watchlist, votes, and trade offers are removed; aggregated and anonymized figures (e.g. total site portfolio value) are not reconstructed after the fact.

13. Your rights (GDPR / CCPA)

You can request access to, correction of, or deletion of any personal data we hold about you by emailing nick@stonysoftworks.com. We respond within 30 days. If you have not signed in, there is nothing personal tied to you on our side — we do not track anonymous visitors.

14. Children

SboxCharts is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from them. If you believe a child has an account, contact us and we will delete it.

15. Changes

If this policy changes materially, we will update the date at the top of this page. Continued use after changes indicates acceptance.

Terms of Service

By using SboxCharts ("the Service") you agree to the following. If you don't, please don't use the site.

1. What this site is

SboxCharts is an independent tracker for S&Box cosmetic items on the Steam Community Market and the S&Box in-game store. We aggregate and present public market data, provide optional portfolio tracking for signed-in users, and host a user-run trade board. We are not a broker, exchange, marketplace, or trading platform. No transactions happen on this site.

2. Not financial advice

Prices, charts, rankings, sentiment votes, and analytics are for informational purposes only. Nothing on this site is investment advice. Virtual-item prices are volatile and you can lose money trading them. Do your own research before buying or selling.

3. Steam authentication

Sign-in uses Steam OpenID. We do not receive or store your Steam password. By signing in, you authorize us to access your public Steam profile and public inventory as described in the Privacy Policy.

4. Data accuracy

We make reasonable efforts to keep data current, but we pull from third-party sources that can change, go down, or return bad data without warning. Prices shown may lag real-time. Historical data may have gaps. Portfolio values are estimates based on the last observed market price. Data is provided as-is, with no warranty of accuracy or completeness.

5. Acceptable use

  • Don't scrape the site at scale or programmatically harvest data without permission
  • Don't attempt to overload, disrupt, or probe our servers
  • Don't reverse-engineer or attempt to extract non-public data
  • Don't impersonate other users or misrepresent your identity
  • Don't use the Service for any unlawful purpose
  • Don't post trade offers that are misleading, fraudulent, or involve items you don't own or can't deliver

If you want programmatic access, get in touch — we may release an API.

6. User-generated content

Cost basis, trade offers, and any other data you submit remain yours. You grant us a non-exclusive license to store and display your data as required to run the features you use. Trade offers you post are publicly visible while active.

7. Trades between users

The trade board is a user-run bulletin board. SboxCharts does not broker, escrow, or guarantee any trade. Any transaction between users happens on Steam, at the users' own risk. We are not responsible for disputes, scams, or losses arising from trades arranged via listings on this site.

8. Intellectual property

Steam, S&Box, and related trademarks belong to their respective owners. S&Box is developed by Facepunch Studios. Item names and images are sourced from Steam and are the property of Valve Corporation and Facepunch Studios — used here for identification only. The SboxCharts name, layout, and original content are owned by Stony Softworks LLC.

9. No affiliation

SboxCharts is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Facepunch Studios, Valve Corporation, Steam, or sbox.game.

10. Account termination

We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms or abuse the Service. You may delete your account at any time by contacting us.

11. No warranty

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranty of any kind, express or implied. We do not guarantee uptime, data accuracy, or fitness for any particular purpose.

12. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Stony Softworks LLC is not liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the Service, including any trading decisions you make based on data displayed here.

13. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Georgia, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Any disputes will be resolved in good faith first; if that fails, in the state or federal courts located in Georgia, and you consent to the jurisdiction of those courts.

14. Changes to terms

We may update these Terms at any time. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

15. Contact
